Kek. This team. Someone once used it and managed to peak at 1st on Showdown - and then that guy stopped using it. But dayum, this team is so gimmicky it makes you wonder if dEnIsSsS was responsible for it. Anyway, this team essentially traps a mon and spams memento, forcing it to switch out when you switch in Smeargle. Smeargle sets up, and Baton Passes its boosts to Espeon. It's pretty fun to use.
965 PBV on PokeBattle (with a 285 Mega Gengar). Memento spam. Stored Power sweep by Espeon.

Sableye
The Suicide Lead - idealistically, you want to set up a Gravity and then have Sableye faint. Mental Herb + Taunt forces your opponent to attack you. If they're a cautious player and keeps switching around Sableye, punish them with Knock Off and Will-O-Wisp. The reason this set is running Gravity is because Diglett and Dugtrio's Arena Trap dosen't trap flying types or Levitate users; this is negated by Gravity. The worst match-up with Sableye is M.Charizard X, as it can't be burnt and Memento is mitigated by Dragon Dance. | Sableye @ Mental Herb Ability: Prankster EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef IVs: 0 Atk Careful nature - Gravity - Taunt - Knock Off - Will-O-Wisp |
Diglett
The First Sacrifice - ultimately, this Diglett will die using Memento. Rock Tomb and Mud-Slap are situational moves to use on super speedy mon's whilst utilising your Focus Sash. If your opponent is a complete fool and stays in with your Smeargle after the drops, it makes setting up easier. Honestly, Diglett isn't going to be around for long. | Diglett @ Focus Sash Ability: Arena Trap EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe Jolly nature - Memento - Earthquake - Rock Tomb - Mud-Slap |
Dugtrio
The Second Sacrifice - Dugtrio, with its 120 Base speed, is almost always guaranteed to set up Stealth Rocks and a Memento. It is also nice to know that Memento isn't reflected by Magic Bounce. However, it is blocked by Clear Body (so Metagross and the Regi's totally fuck this team up). After this second Memento, it's show time. | Dugtrio @ Focus Sash Ability: Arena Trap EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Jolly nature - Memento - Earthquake - Rock Tomb - Stealth Rock |
Smeargle
The Priest - by this point, your opponent will have a mon with -4 attack and special attack. They are either forced to switch, or stay in and barely scarce Smeargle - either way, this set capitalises on this free turn to set up as many boosts as you can before BPing. First of all, the Ev spread (which was from Denis' RMT) optimises it's stats to survive whilst boosting. It's better than the 252 HP/ 252Spd spread. Second of all, this Smeargle Moveset is very difficult to use. There is no Focus Sash and no Spore. Furthermore, you're inviting your opponent to attack with Taunt. However, all these moves are absolutely necessary to win. It is also important to use Geomancy before BPing; without the boosts, Espeon cannot sweep with Store Power. Taunt is to prevent other Taunt users or Thundurus on the switch-ins; otherwise, Smeargle cannot BP if it is Taunted. Obviously, perfect prediction is required at this stage of the game. | Smeargle @ Power Herb Ability: Own Tempo EVs: 88 HP / 204 Def / 216 Spe IVs: 0 Atk / 0 SAtk Timid nature - Baton Pass - Cotton Guard - Geomancy - Taunt |
Espeon
The Goddess - If you've managed to Baton Pass at least a Geomancy boost to Espeon, it's enough to say gg (it's a 140 Base power with 6 boosts). The Ev spread is taken from Denis again (he's Ev spreads for BP teams are just too good). Tbh, the only mon capable of revenge killing Espeon is Banded Talonflame, which doesn't even OHKO with this spread (even without the Cotton Guard). As for the moveset, Dazzling Gleam and Stored Power has powerful Base attacks and wrecks almost every Steel type, but has trouble beating Bisharp and Specially Defensive Heatran. Thus, Hidden Power Fighting is ideal for eliminating these commonly used mons. Substitute, Morning Sun and Leftovers makes Espeon the ultimate tank and blocks it from Crits and Lava Plume burns. | Espeon @ Leftovers Ability: Magic Bounce EVs: 200 HP / 224 Def / 84 Spe IVs: 0 Atk Bold nature - Substitute - Morning Sun - Dazzling Gleam/ Hidden Power Fighting - Stored Power |
Talonflame or Mega Gengar
The Revenge Killers - the above-listed pokemons all concentrate on supporting Espeon by allowing it to receive boosts. Talonflame or Mega Gengar (Talonflame for Showdown, Mega Gengar for PokeBattle) serves as the clean-up mons if Espeon is unfortunately fainted by a Crit. Tbh, any fast, strong attacker can be used, but these 2 are my personal preferences.
Talonflame @ Choice Band Ability: Gale Wings EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Adamant nature - U-turn - Acrobatics - Flare Blitz - Brave Bird | Gengar @ Gengarite Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe IVs: 0 Atk Timid nature - Shadow Ball - Sludge Wave - Focus Blast - Taunt |
Counters to this team
- Haze/ Perish Song Users - There is no easy way to play around this. Just forfeit.
- Clear Body Users (Metagross, the Regi's) - This strategy relies on decreasing the opponent's stats. Say gg if they have any of these mon's.
- Shedninja - Although people barely run them in higher ratings, Espeon cannot touch Shedninja at all due to Wonder Guard.
- Mega Charizard X leads - It can't get burnt and mitigates Memento drops with Dragon Dance. Say gg.
- Taunt Thundurus - The reason this team suddenly dropped in usage was because how predictable it was. Good players with Prankster Thundurus would switch it into Smeargle as it's setting up. Afterwards, Prankster Taunt prevents Smeargle from BPing to Espeon. Smeargle HAS to use Taunt on Thundurus on the switch in.
